Apprentice Substation Technician

 

mmediate opening for a full-time entry-level position. The successful candidate will be part of a small team environment providing testing and maintenance of electrical substation equipment at various electric power company locations, primarily around the Southeast United States. This equipment includes but is not limited to power transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, voltage regulators, instrument transformers, protective relaying, system control, communications, and SCADA systems. The work includes installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance, electrical and mechanical testing to ensure the equipment is acceptable for service. The use of general and special purpose test equipment to assess and grade equipment condition. Performing repairs to equipment that does not meet these standards. Performing modifications and/or upgrades of equipment. Any other duties as required by the job. This position will assist the more senior team members in all aspects of testing and maintenance and will learn the trade primarily through on the job training and specialized formal training.

 

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a good knowledge and understanding of the electrical and mechanical trades. They must have a good driving record, be willing to travel, pass a drug test and a background check. They will possess some basic electrical print reading ability and have strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs and general computer skills. They will be able to strictly adhere to written and verbal instructions. They will have electrical/mechanical training via military experience, vocational technical school degree or college degree in related fields. Practical, demonstratable knowledge from on-the-job training in related fields is also acceptable. Veterans and possession of a CDL driver’s license is a plus.

 

Pay: Competitive pay rate dependent on experience and qualifications.

 

Schedule: Our standard work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day, and overnight travel (75% or more) may be required.
